Welcome to Mandi's Nanowrimo Site!
Once a year, thousands of crazy individuals get together on a quest to create literary masterpieces. Well, ok, not all of them are destined to become classics but plenty of blood, sweat and tears goes into each and every attempted novel. The challange? You have only 30 days to create a 50,000 word work of fiction that will hopefully impress everyone who sets their beady little eyes upon it. National Novel Writing Month (or NaNoWriMo for short) takes place every November and puts an emphasis on quantity, not quality. So, although we all strive to write Pulitzer Prize winning novels, those who take on this challenge strive for one main goal - to reach 50,000!
So, why do so many people subject themselves to such torture? Maybe we are aspiring novelists, or it could be that our noggins are filled to the brim with such brilliant thoughts that we must put them on paper before television kills our remaining brain cells - damn you reality TV! Actually, the truth is, we have no life. Wait, let me rephrase this: I have no life! That is why this is my fourth year and my fourth attempt at a Nanowrimo novel. Four years ago I started NaNoWriMo after a co-worker opened my eyes to it and I must say that since then, I have been hooked. Twice I failed in my mission to reach 50,000 but last year, during NaNo 2005, I became the proud owner of a complete novel written under the worst conditions. I must say that, all things considered, I did quite well. I was out of town the first few days then I missed an entire week of writing due to wisdom teeth removal. But, I still finished. It took a lot out of me but I completed my novel just before the deadline! This year, I hope to do the same. I will be challenged even more, however, as I will be gone for over a week to get married. But, I now know that I have the ability to finish and even if I don't, I will have a blast sucking down latte's and staying up at insane hours to do one of my most favorite things - writing!.
Every year, many people ask if they can read my novels. However, since learning that any of my writings that I put on a website are considered "published", I will no longer be adding any of my prose to this site because doing so would be like giving up my "First Print Rights". If I ever take these abominable, so-called "novels" to a publisher for consideration someday, they may not be interested in me if I have already published my novels on a website...well, that and they would turn me down because I'm a sucky writer! So, what's the purpose of even having this lame NaNo site anyway? Well, there is no other purpose other than for me to procrastinate on my novel by spending time here updating my progress meter. Really, it's not as though anyone reads this anyway, right? I still have my 2004 novel on this site for your reading pleasure (even though it is quite unfinished - still) so you can sample one of my works. But be nice! Even though I am sure you are all honest people, model citizens, blah, blah, blah...I still should say that all of these writings, however crappy they may be, are mine and cannot be copied or reproduced in any form or I will release twenty million blood sucking ticks and dispatch them immediatly to your house to suck the blood cells from your nasty plagerising ass! Okay, with that out of the way, here they are already:
Nanowrimo 2006 - "Nothing Gold Can Stay" (Coming November 2006!)
Nanowrimo 2005 - "The Souls of Dead Folk"

50,215 / 50,000 (100.4%) |
